After the successful 10th World Plumbing Conference in New Delhi in November 2013, the global plumbing community will gather at the beautiful city of Cape Town in enchanting South Africa in September 2016, for the 11th World Plumbing Conference. The carefully chosen conference theme – “Regulations for Plumbing Sustainability – a case for International Standards” says it all! Having had the privilege to travel in South Africa, I have no doubt that the problems faced by the plumbing industries in South Africa and India and many other developing countries are similar – lack of awareness about the important role plumbing performs in safeguarding health and safety of the citizens. Creating awareness, legislating guidelines and monitoring implementation of safe plumbing practices are needs of the hour!
The conference host, Institute Of Plumbing South Africa (IOPSA), has already started preparatory work for the conference in right earnest and have drawn up an exciting programme of events to be held over 15th and 16th September. As is the case with World Plumbing Conferences, it will once again be business with pleasure. An ideal opportunity to interact with fellow members of our profession from across the globe and to witness the sights and sounds of South Africa – a country blessed by nature!
The conference will be preceded by the triennial meeting of the World Plumbing Council on September 14, when a new team will take charge of the WPC Executive Board. Friends, the three year wait will soon be over. I look forward to meet you all in Cape Town. Let us join our colleagues from IOPSA in spreading the message – “Plumbers Protect Health of the Nations”.
With Warm Greetings,
President, Indian Plumbing Association

Africa’s economic pulse has quickened, infusing the continent with a new commercial vibrancy. In 2013, Africa maintained an average growth rate of about 4%. This compares to 3% for the global economy and underscores again the continent’s resilience to global and regional headwinds. Telecommunications, banking, and retailing are flourishing. Construction is booming. Private-investment inflows are surging.
The time for businesses to act on those plans is now and on behalf its members the Institute of Plumbing of South Africa welcomes the world of Plumbing to the Gateway of Africa.
As the world heads to the shores of a growing Africa least we not forget that “Water is Life”. As this growth is set to continue and prosper, it is appropriate for the uniting of the World Plumbing Industry at the Gateway of Africa. Uniting the world plumbing industry with the aim to develop and promote the image and standards of plumbing, through a sustainable regulatory plumbing environment, so as to improve public health and safe guard the African and World plumbing environment.
The World Plumbing Conference proudly hosted by the Institute of Plumbing of South Africa brings together the South African, African, and World of Plumbing Industry under one roof in order to encourage greater levels of interactivity between members, decision-makers, and business and industry experts so as to facilitate the discussion of a sustainable regulatory environment and issues facing the plumbing industry, under the all-embracing theme of Water for Life. The Congress Delegates can expect a packed programme consisting of stimulating talks from influential speakers from a variety of industry spheres, sports. events and social functions, taking place in the world-renowned South African Mother City of Cape Town.
Benjamin Franklin said: “When the well’s dry, we know the worth of water”; do not be part of the “dry well”, join us and the world in sunny South Africa and contribute to, and be a part of, this great and respected “plumbing” trade of ours.
President, Institute of Plumbing of South Africa.
